Step 1 — Stop the next charge

  1. On iPhone or iPad: Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions.
  2. Select WeTransfer: Transfer FilesCancel Subscription.
  3. Check that it now says Expires and not Renews. If it still says Renews, it is not canceled.

Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. This is the single most common reason people keep getting charged.

Step 2 — Ask Apple for the charge back

Answer these and you'll get the exact wording to paste into Apple's form. Nothing is sent anywhere — it's generated in your browser.

A detail only you could write makes the request read as yours rather than a form letter.

What on earth is going on? One screen says there’s a free option for people who use it rarely… I would use it literally like three times a year, so this is perfect for me… And then once you get going, trying to upload or download files, suddenly you cannot do it without paying lots of money! This has happened over and over again for me. Useless!

This app is a subscription trap. I have been using the free version for years to receive photos maybe 4 times a year, but last month they changed their app to have the receive feature be associated with the a new membership plan. App continues to time out with issues on large files. Difficult to download files or videos, as you will see it will stop when device is not being used or you switch to another app. Super frustrating, don’t use as it feels like a total scam.

Questions

Can I get a refund after I already canceled WeTransfer: Transfer Files?

Yes. Canceling stops future renewals but does not refund a charge that already went through. You request that separately at reportaproblem.apple.com, and "I was charged after I canceled the subscription" is the reason to select.

How long do I have to ask for a refund?

Apple generally expects refund requests within 90 days of the charge. Ask as soon as you notice it — requests on recent charges are approved more often.

Apple declined my request. Is that the end?

No. A first decline is common and is often automated. You can submit the request again with more specific facts and ask for review by a senior advisor. If it is declined again, you can dispute the charge with your card issuer.

Will I lose access to WeTransfer: Transfer Files if I cancel?

You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. Canceling only stops the next renewal.
